Penanggalan
Penanggalan is a mythical creature from Southeast Asian folklore, particularly in Malaysia and Indonesia. It is often depicted as a woman who can detach her head from her body, allowing her to fly at night in search of blood, especially from pregnant women or newborns. The head is usually shown with long, flowing hair and trailing organs, creating a terrifying image.
In some stories, the Penanggalan is said to be a woman who practiced black magic or was cursed. To protect themselves, villagers often hang thorny branches or garlic around their homes, as these are believed to deter the creature from entering.
