Penalty Shot
A penalty shot is a specific opportunity in sports, particularly in hockey and soccer, where a player is awarded a direct attempt to score a goal. This occurs when a foul is committed by a defending player within the penalty area, preventing a clear scoring chance. The player takes the shot from a designated spot, facing only the goalkeeper.
In hockey, a penalty shot is awarded for certain infractions, such as a player being tripped or hooked while on a breakaway. The player has one chance to score, and if successful, it counts as a goal. If the shot misses or is saved, play continues as normal.
