Peñol-Guatapé Reservoir
The Peñol-Guatapé Reservoir is a large artificial lake located in the Antioquia region of Colombia. It was created in the 1970s to provide hydroelectric power and support local agriculture. The reservoir is surrounded by lush green hills and features numerous islands, making it a popular destination for water sports and recreational activities.
The reservoir is also known for its striking views, particularly the iconic El Peñón de Guatapé, a massive rock formation that rises 200 meters above the water. Visitors can climb its 740 steps for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, making it a favorite spot for tourists and locals alike.
