Paycheck Protection Program
The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) was a loan initiative established by the U.S. government in response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its primary goal was to help small businesses maintain their workforce and cover essential expenses, such as payroll, rent, and utilities. The program provided forgivable loans, meaning that if businesses met certain criteria, they would not have to repay the funds.
Administered by the Small Business Administration (SBA), the PPP aimed to prevent layoffs and business closures during the crisis. Eligible businesses could apply through approved lenders, and the program was part of the larger Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
