Patty Hill Smith
Patty Hill Smith was an American educator and co-creator of the popular children's song "Happy Birthday to You." Born on March 27, 1868, in Anchorage, Kentucky, she was a prominent figure in early childhood education and advocated for progressive teaching methods.
Along with her sister, Mildred J. Hill, Patty developed the song in 1893 as part of a classroom greeting for young children. The melody was originally intended for a song called "Good Morning to All," which was used in their kindergarten classes. Today, "Happy Birthday" is one of the most recognized songs worldwide.
