Pat Summitt
Pat Summitt was a renowned American college basketball coach, best known for her long tenure as the head coach of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers from 1974 to 2012. Under her leadership, the team won eight NCAA championships and she became the winningest coach in NCAA Division I basketball history at the time of her retirement. Summitt was known for her intense coaching style and her ability to develop players both on and off the court.
In addition to her coaching success, Summitt was a pioneer for women’s sports and advocated for gender equality in athletics. She received numerous awards throughout her career, including the Naismith College Coach of the Year and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. After being diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease in 2011, she continued to raise awareness about the condition and established the Pat Summitt Foundation to support research and education.
