Parvovirus
Parvovirus is a small, highly contagious virus that primarily affects dogs, particularly puppies. It causes a severe gastrointestinal illness known as canine parvovirus infection, leading to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. The virus spreads through direct contact with infected dogs or contaminated environments, making it crucial for pet owners to ensure proper vaccination.
In addition to dogs, there are other types of parvoviruses that can infect different species, including humans. One example is human parvovirus B19, which can cause a mild illness known as fifth disease, characterized by a rash and flu-like symptoms. Vaccination and hygiene practices are essential in preventing the spread of these viruses.
