Party of Democratic Socialism
The Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) was a political party in Germany that emerged from the former ruling party of East Germany, the Socialist Unity Party. Founded in 1989, the PDS aimed to represent leftist interests and promote social justice, democratic governance, and economic equality.
In 2007, the PDS merged with the Electoral Alternative for Labor and Social Justice to form the Left Party (Die Linke). The PDS's legacy continues through this new party, which advocates for progressive policies and seeks to address issues like wealth inequality and workers' rights in contemporary Germany.
