Paresthesia
Paresthesia is a medical term that describes abnormal sensations in the skin, such as tingling, prickling, or numbness. These sensations can occur in various parts of the body, often in the hands, feet, arms, or legs. Paresthesia can be temporary or chronic, depending on the underlying cause.
Common causes of paresthesia include pressure on nerves, poor circulation, or nerve damage due to conditions like diabetes or multiple sclerosis. While it can be uncomfortable, paresthesia is usually not serious and often resolves on its own. However, persistent symptoms may require medical evaluation.
