Paraya
Paraya refers to a social group in India, traditionally associated with the practice of manual scavenging and other low-status occupations. Members of this community often face social stigma and discrimination due to their historical association with untouchability, a practice rooted in the caste system.
In contemporary society, efforts are being made to uplift the Paraya community through education and employment opportunities. Various organizations and government initiatives aim to provide support and resources to help them transition to more dignified livelihoods, breaking the cycle of poverty and social exclusion associated with their past.
