Papal Altar
The Papal Altar is a significant altar located in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. It is the main altar where the Pope celebrates the Eucharist, particularly during important liturgical events. The altar is positioned directly above the tomb of Saint Peter, one of Jesus' apostles and the first Pope, making it a sacred site for Catholics.
This altar is designed in a grand style, featuring a baldachin, or canopy, supported by four columns. The baldachin is made of bronze and was designed by the artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The Papal Altar symbolizes the connection between the Pope and the early Christian Church.
