Panticapaeum
Panticapaeum was an ancient city located on the eastern shore of the Cimmerian Bosporus, in present-day Kerch, Crimea. Founded by Greek colonists from Miletus in the 6th century BCE, it became a significant trade hub due to its strategic position between Europe and Asia. The city was known for its rich resources, including grain and fish, which facilitated commerce.
The city was also the capital of the Bosporan Kingdom, a powerful state that thrived from the 5th century BCE to the 4th century CE. Panticapaeum was renowned for its impressive architecture, including temples and fortifications, and played a crucial role in the cultural exchange between Greek and local cultures.
