Pangolin
The pangolin is a unique mammal known for its distinctive protective scales made of keratin, the same material found in human nails. These nocturnal creatures are primarily found in Africa and Asia, where they inhabit forests, grasslands, and savannas. Pangolins are insectivorous, mainly feeding on ants and termites, which they capture using their long, sticky tongues.
There are eight species of pangolins, each varying in size and habitat preferences. Unfortunately, pangolins are critically endangered due to illegal wildlife trade and habitat loss. They are often hunted for their meat and scales, which are falsely believed to have medicinal properties in some cultures.
