Pancreatic Juice
Pancreatic juice is a digestive fluid produced by the pancreas. It contains enzymes that help break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats in the small intestine. These enzymes include amylase, proteases, and lipases, which work to ensure that nutrients from food can be absorbed effectively.
In addition to enzymes, pancreatic juice also contains bicarbonate, which neutralizes stomach acid as it enters the small intestine. This creates an optimal environment for the enzymes to function. The secretion of pancreatic juice is regulated by hormones such as secretin and cholecystokinin, which respond to the presence of food in the digestive system.
