Pama-Nyungan Languages
Pama-Nyungan languages are a large family of indigenous languages spoken primarily in Australia. They are the most widely distributed language family on the continent, covering about 90% of the Australian landmass. This family includes over 200 distinct languages, with notable examples such as Pitjantjatjara and Yolŋu Matha.
These languages share common features, such as a focus on verb forms and a tendency to use suffixes for grammatical purposes. Many Pama-Nyungan languages have been influenced by contact with other languages, especially in urban areas, leading to language shift and endangerment for some of these indigenous tongues.
