PAR (Golf)
PAR in golf refers to the number of strokes that an expert golfer is expected to take to complete a hole or a round. Each hole on a golf course is assigned a PAR value, typically ranging from 3 to 5 strokes, depending on its length and difficulty. The total PAR for an entire 18-hole course usually falls between 70 and 72.
When a golfer completes a hole in fewer strokes than the PAR, it is called a birdie, while taking more strokes results in a bogey. Understanding PAR helps golfers gauge their performance and set realistic scoring goals during their rounds.
