Oxoacid
An oxoacid is a type of acid that contains oxygen, hydrogen, and another element, typically a non-metal. The general formula for oxoacids can be represented as HnXOm, where X is the central atom, n is the number of hydrogen atoms, and m is the number of oxygen atoms. Common examples include sulfuric acid and nitric acid.
Oxoacids are characterized by the presence of a hydroxyl group (-OH) bonded to the central atom, along with double-bonded oxygen atoms. The strength of an oxoacid often depends on the electronegativity of the central atom and the number of oxygen atoms attached, influencing its ability to donate protons in solution.
