Owakudani
Owakudani is a volcanic valley located in the Hakone area of Japan, known for its active geothermal features. It was formed during the last eruption of Hakone Volcano around 1,000 years ago. Visitors can see steam vents, hot springs, and bubbling mud pools, which are a result of the volcanic activity.
The area is also famous for its black eggs, or Kuro Tamago, which are boiled in the hot springs and turn black due to the minerals. Eating these eggs is said to extend one's life by seven years. Owakudani is accessible via the Hakone Ropeway, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
