Our Lord of Bonfim
Our Lord of Bonfim, or Senhor do Bonfim, is a revered figure in Brazilian Catholicism, particularly in the city of Salvador, Bahia. The devotion centers around a statue of Jesus Christ, which is housed in the Church of Bonfim. This church, built in the 18th century, attracts thousands of pilgrims each year, especially during the famous Bonfim Festival.
The festival, celebrated in January, features a vibrant procession where devotees tie colorful ribbons, known as fitas, to the church's gates. These ribbons symbolize prayers and wishes, making the event a significant cultural and religious gathering in Brazil.
