Otto of Greece
Otto of Greece was a Bavarian prince who became the first king of modern Greece after its independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1832. Born on June 1, 1815, he was chosen as king at a young age, largely due to the influence of the Great Powers of Europe. His reign aimed to stabilize the newly formed nation and establish a constitutional monarchy.
Otto's rule faced numerous challenges, including political unrest and economic difficulties. In 1862, he was deposed by a coup, leading to his exile. Despite his troubled reign, Otto's legacy is significant in the history of Greece as a foundational figure in its modern monarchy.
