Otto I of Germany
Otto I of Germany, also known as Otto the Great, was a significant ruler in the early medieval period. Born in 912, he became the Duke of Saxony and later the King of Germany in 936. Otto is best known for unifying the German territories and strengthening the monarchy, which laid the foundation for the Holy Roman Empire.
In 962, Otto was crowned Emperor by Pope John XII, marking the revival of the title in Western Europe. His reign was characterized by military successes, including the defeat of the Magyars at the Battle of Lechfeld in 955, which secured his power and expanded his influence across Europe.
