Osteophyte
An osteophyte, commonly known as a bone spur, is a bony growth that forms on the edges of bones, often in joints. These growths typically develop in response to joint damage or inflammation, commonly associated with conditions like osteoarthritis. Osteophytes can vary in size and may not always cause symptoms.
While some osteophytes are asymptomatic, they can lead to pain, stiffness, or reduced mobility if they press on nearby nerves or tissues. Treatment options may include physical therapy, medications, or, in severe cases, surgery to remove the growths and alleviate discomfort.
