Osgood-Schlatter disease
Osgood-Schlatter disease is a common condition that affects children and adolescents, particularly those who are active in sports. It occurs when the patellar tendon pulls on the growth plate at the top of the shinbone, causing pain and swelling just below the knee. This is often due to repetitive stress from activities like running, jumping, or kneeling.
Symptoms typically include localized pain and tenderness, especially during physical activity. While the condition can be uncomfortable, it usually resolves on its own as the child grows and the bones mature. Treatment often involves rest, ice, and over-the-counter pain relief.
