Oscar Micheaux
Oscar Micheaux was an influential African American filmmaker and author, born in 1884 in Illinois. He is best known for his pioneering work in the early 20th century, creating films that addressed racial issues and the African American experience. Micheaux produced over 40 films, including the notable Within Our Gates and The Homesteader, which challenged stereotypes and provided a voice for Black communities.
Micheaux's contributions to cinema were significant during a time when Hollywood largely ignored or misrepresented African Americans.
