Opossum
The opossum is a marsupial native to the Americas, particularly found in the United States and Canada. It is known for its distinctive appearance, featuring a pointed snout, large ears, and a long, hairless tail. Opossums are nocturnal creatures, primarily active at night, and they have a varied diet that includes fruits, insects, and small animals.
One of the most notable behaviors of the opossum is its ability to play dead when threatened, a tactic known as "playing possum." This response can confuse predators, allowing the opossum to escape danger. Additionally, opossums are beneficial to the environment as they help control pests by eating ticks and other insects.
