Operation Iceberg
Operation Iceberg was the code name for the Allied invasion of the Okinawa Islands during World War II, which took place from April to June 1945. This operation aimed to capture Okinawa as a strategic base for the planned invasion of the Japanese home islands. It involved a massive amphibious assault and was one of the largest and bloodiest battles in the Pacific theater.
The operation featured forces from the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Army, supported by troops from Australia and other Allied nations. The battle resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with heavy losses for the Japanese military and a high toll on civilian populations in Okinawa.
