Operation Bagration
Operation Bagration was a major Soviet offensive launched on June 22, 1944, during World War II. It aimed to destroy the German Army Group Centre in Belarus. The operation was named after the Georgian general Pyotr Bagration and involved a massive concentration of Soviet forces, leading to significant territorial gains.
The offensive was highly successful, resulting in the encirclement and destruction of a large number of German troops. By the end of July 1944, the Soviets had liberated key cities, including Minsk, and dealt a severe blow to the Wehrmacht, significantly weakening German defenses on the Eastern Front.
