Operación Condor
Operación Condor was a covert campaign initiated in the 1970s by several South American military dictatorships, including those in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Brazil. Its primary goal was to eliminate leftist political opponents and dissidents through coordinated intelligence sharing, surveillance, and targeted assassinations.
The operation led to widespread human rights abuses, including forced disappearances, torture, and killings. Thousands of individuals, including activists, intellectuals, and ordinary citizens, were affected. Operación Condor is often cited as a significant example of state-sponsored terrorism in Latin America during the Cold War era.
