Open Directory Project
The Open Directory Project (ODP), also known as DMOZ, was a multilingual open-content directory of websites. It was built and maintained by a community of volunteer editors who categorized websites into a structured hierarchy. This project aimed to provide a comprehensive and organized resource for users to find quality websites across various topics.
Launched in 1998, the ODP was one of the largest human-edited directories on the internet. It was widely used by search engines, including Yahoo! and Google, to enhance their search results. However, the project was officially closed in 2017 due to declining contributions and changes in web usage.
