Onbashira Festival
The Onbashira Festival is a traditional event held every six years in the Suwa region of Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It celebrates the renewal of the Suwa Grand Shrine and involves the transportation of massive logs from the surrounding mountains to the shrine. These logs, known as "onbashira," symbolize the connection between the divine and the earthly.
During the festival, participants engage in various activities, including riding the logs down steep slopes and erecting them at the shrine. The event is not only a display of strength and skill but also a way to honor the local deities and ensure a good harvest for the coming years.
