Omicron Ceti
Omicron Ceti, also known as Mira, is a red giant star located in the constellation Cetus. It is approximately 200 light-years away from Earth and is notable for its variability, changing brightness over a period of about 332 days. Mira is classified as a long-period variable star, which means its brightness fluctuates significantly over time.
Discovered in 1596, Omicron Ceti has been studied extensively due to its unique characteristics. It is one of the first stars recognized as a variable star and has a spectral type of M7e, indicating its cool temperature and reddish hue. Mira is also surrounded by a nebula, formed from its stellar winds, which adds to its interest in astronomical studies.
