Old Saybrook Lighthouse
The Old Saybrook Lighthouse, also known as the Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse, is located at the mouth of the Connecticut River in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Built in 1884, it was designed to guide ships safely into the river and protect them from the rocky shoreline. The lighthouse stands 55 feet tall and features a distinctive white tower with a red lantern.
The lighthouse is constructed of cast iron and is painted white, making it easily visible from a distance. It was automated in 1959, eliminating the need for a keeper. Today, the Old Saybrook Lighthouse is a popular subject for photography and a symbol of the area's maritime history.
