Okapi Wildlife Reserve
The Okapi Wildlife Reserve is a protected area located in the northeastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Established in 1992, it covers approximately 13,700 square kilometers and is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including the unique okapi, which resembles a cross between a zebra and a giraffe. The reserve is recognized for its rich biodiversity and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The reserve's habitat includes dense rainforests, rivers, and savannas, providing a sanctuary for various species, such as forest elephants and chimpanzees. Conservation efforts in the area aim to protect these animals and their habitats from threats like poaching and deforestation. The Okapi Wildlife Reserve plays a crucial role in preserving the ecological balance of the region.
