Ohio class
The Ohio class is a class of nuclear-powered submarines used by the United States Navy. Designed for strategic deterrence, these submarines can carry and launch ballistic missiles, specifically the Trident II (D5) missiles. The Ohio class was introduced in the 1980s and has played a crucial role in the U.S. nuclear triad, which includes land-based missiles and strategic bombers.
Each Ohio-class submarine can operate for extended periods underwater, typically up to 15 years without needing to refuel. They are equipped with advanced technology for stealth and navigation, making them difficult to detect. The class consists of 18 submarines, with some converted for special operations and intelligence missions.
