Ocular Muscles
Ocular muscles are the muscles responsible for controlling the movement of the eyes. There are six main ocular muscles for each eye: the superior rectus, inferior rectus, medial rectus, lateral rectus, superior oblique, and inferior oblique. These muscles work together to allow the eyes to move in various directions, enabling us to track objects and maintain focus.
These muscles are controlled by cranial nerves, specifically oculomotor nerve, trochlear nerve, and abducens nerve. Proper functioning of the ocular muscles is essential for good vision and coordination. Any dysfunction can lead to issues such as double vision or difficulty focusing on objects.
