Occipitalis
The Occipitalis is a muscle located at the back of the head. It is part of the larger group of muscles known as the epicranius, which covers the top and back of the skull. The primary function of the Occipitalis is to pull the scalp backward, contributing to facial expressions and movements.
This muscle works in conjunction with the frontalis, which is located at the front of the head. Together, these muscles help in raising the eyebrows and moving the scalp. The Occipitalis is innervated by the facial nerve, which is responsible for controlling muscles of facial expression.
