Obie Awards
The Obie Awards are annual awards presented by the Village Voice to recognize excellence in off-Broadway theater. Established in 1955, these awards celebrate outstanding performances, productions, and playwrights, highlighting the importance of innovative and experimental work in the theater community.
The awards are divided into several categories, including Best New American Play and Best Performance. Unlike other theater awards, the Obie Awards do not have a formal nomination process; instead, winners are chosen by a panel of judges who attend various off-Broadway productions throughout the year.
