Obie Award
The Obie Award is an annual honor presented by the Village Voice to recognize excellence in off-Broadway theater. Established in 1955, the awards celebrate outstanding performances, productions, and playwrights, highlighting the importance of innovative and experimental works in the theater community.
The awards are divided into several categories, including Best New American Play and Best Performance. Unlike many other theater awards, the Obie Award does not have a formal nomination process; instead, winners are chosen by a panel of judges who attend various off-Broadway productions throughout the year.
