Oberon class
The Oberon class refers to a series of submarines used by the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. Designed in the 1960s, these submarines are known for their diesel-electric propulsion and are primarily used for anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, and surveillance missions. The class is named after the character Oberon from Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
The Oberon class submarines have a length of about 295 feet and can operate at depths of over 1,000 feet. They are equipped with torpedo tubes and can carry various types of torpedoes, including the Spearfish torpedo. Although they have been largely replaced by more advanced submarines, some remain in service with navies around the world.
