Oïl Languages
Oïl languages are a group of Romance languages spoken primarily in northern France and parts of Belgium. They evolved from Latin and include dialects such as Picard, Norman, and Walloon. The term "Oïl" comes from the word for "yes" in these languages, distinguishing them from the Occitan languages spoken in southern France.
These languages have a rich cultural heritage and are often associated with regional identities. While they share similarities with French, they also have unique characteristics and vocabulary. Oïl languages are considered endangered, as their use has declined in favor of standard French.
