Nupedia
Nupedia was an early online encyclopedia launched in 2000, created by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger. It aimed to provide high-quality articles written by experts in various fields. Unlike traditional encyclopedias, Nupedia allowed for a collaborative approach, but its strict editorial process limited the number of articles produced.
Despite its noble intentions, Nupedia struggled to gain traction due to its slow and cumbersome review system. In 2003, it was eventually overshadowed by Wikipedia, a more open and user-friendly platform that allowed anyone to contribute, leading to its decline and eventual shutdown.
