Numic languages
The Numic languages are a branch of the Uto-Aztecan language family, primarily spoken by Indigenous peoples in the western United States. This group includes languages such as Shoshone, Paiute, and Mono. These languages are characterized by their unique phonetic and grammatical structures, which reflect the cultural heritage of the communities that speak them.
Numic languages are divided into two main groups: Northern Numic and Southern Numic. Northern Numic includes languages like Shoshone and Western Paiute, while Southern Numic encompasses languages such as Southern Paiute and Mono. Efforts are ongoing to preserve and revitalize these languages, as many are endangered due to declining numbers of speakers.
