Nucleoproteins
Nucleoproteins are complex molecules made up of nucleic acids, such as DNA or RNA, and proteins. They play essential roles in the structure and function of cells, particularly in processes like gene expression and DNA replication. The combination of nucleic acids and proteins allows nucleoproteins to perform various biological functions, including packaging genetic material and regulating gene activity.
One of the most well-known types of nucleoproteins is chromatin, which consists of DNA wrapped around proteins called histones. This structure helps organize and compact the genetic material within the nucleus of eukaryotic cells, making it easier for the cell to manage its genetic information and ensure proper cell division.
