Nuclear Energy in Ukraine
Nuclear energy plays a significant role in Ukraine's energy sector, providing about 50% of the country's electricity. The nation operates several nuclear power plants, with the largest being the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is one of the largest in Europe.
Ukraine's reliance on nuclear energy has increased since the 2014 crisis, as it seeks to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels. The country has also focused on improving safety measures and modernizing its nuclear facilities to ensure compliance with international standards, especially following the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.
