Nosema
Nosema is a type of microsporidian parasite that primarily affects honeybees. It can cause a disease known as Nosemosis, which impacts the digestive system of the bees. Infected bees may show symptoms like reduced lifespan, poor foraging ability, and decreased honey production.
The two main species of Nosema that affect bees are Nosema apis and Nosema ceranae. While Nosema apis has been known for a long time, Nosema ceranae has gained attention in recent years due to its rapid spread and association with colony declines. Effective management practices are essential to control its impact on bee populations.
