Northern Right Whale
The Northern Right Whale is a critically endangered species of whale found primarily in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is characterized by its large, robust body, a broad head, and a lack of dorsal fin. These whales can grow up to 50 feet long and weigh as much as 70 tons. They primarily feed on small zooplankton, using their baleen plates to filter food from the water.
Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect the Northern Right Whale, as fewer than 350 individuals remain. Threats to their survival include ship strikes, entanglement in fishing gear, and habitat loss. Organizations like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are working to implement measures to help this species recover.
