Northern Gateway Pipeline
The Northern Gateway Pipeline was a proposed oil pipeline project in Canada designed to transport crude oil from the Alberta oil sands to the coastal city of Kitimat in British Columbia. The project aimed to facilitate the export of oil to international markets, particularly in Asia, and included two pipelines: one for transporting oil and another for carrying natural gas condensate.
The project faced significant opposition from environmental groups, Indigenous communities, and some local residents due to concerns about potential oil spills and impacts on wildlife. In 2016, the Canadian government announced that it would not proceed with the project, effectively halting its development.
