North American porcupines
The North American porcupine is a large rodent found primarily in forests across Canada and the United States. They are known for their distinctive quills, which are modified hairs that provide protection against predators. These quills can detach easily when a porcupine is threatened, allowing them to defend themselves effectively.
North American porcupines are primarily herbivores, feeding on leaves, bark, and fruits. They are mostly nocturnal and are excellent climbers, often found in trees. Their slow movement and solitary nature make them less vulnerable to threats, although they can be preyed upon by larger animals like mountain lions and wolves.
