Nobuo Fujita
Nobuo Fujita was a Japanese pilot known for his role during World War II. He gained notoriety for being the only person to bomb the continental United States, specifically targeting Brookings, Oregon in 1942. Fujita flew a Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane and dropped incendiary bombs in an attempt to ignite forest fires.
After the war, Fujita became a symbol of reconciliation between Japan and the United States. He visited Brookings in 1962, where he was warmly welcomed by the local community. Fujita later expressed regret for his actions during the war and worked towards promoting peace and understanding.
