Nivkh Language
The Nivkh language is a language isolate spoken by the Nivkh people, primarily in the Russian Far East, particularly on the Sakhalin Island and the Amur River delta. It has no known relation to any other language, making it unique. Nivkh is divided into two main dialects: Northern Nivkh and Southern Nivkh, which differ significantly in vocabulary and pronunciation.
Nivkh is primarily an oral language, though some written forms exist. The language features a complex system of verb conjugation and a rich array of vocabulary related to nature and the environment, reflecting the traditional lifestyle of the Nivkh people. Efforts are ongoing to preserve and revitalize the language amid declining speakers.
